T-Minus 2 Weeks! Summer is Almost Here!

Dear House of Dragons,

We are officially at T-minus 2 weeks until summer break! While the end of the school year is near, we want to take a moment to thank you for a strong and successful year. DJMS is incredibly proud of the academic gains and progress our students have made, and your partnership has played a vital role in that success.

As we begin closing out the year, please ensure your child has their laptop charger. Missing chargers will result in being placed on the obligation list. For our 8th grade students, laptop collection will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and chargers must be turned in. Failure to submit devices and chargers may result in an obligation that could place a hold on high school registration.

We also ask for your continued support in reinforcing the importance of positive behavior and adherence to school rules. The SDOC Student Code of Conduct remains in full effect, and decisions made now can impact students into the next school year.

At this time, it is also critical that parents closely monitor student grades. With limited summer school availability this year, not all students will have the opportunity for credit recovery. In order to be promoted to the next grade level, students must earn a yearlong average of 60% or higher in Social Studies, Math, Science, and ELA. We encourage you to have conversations with your child and work with teachers to ensure all assignments are completed and grades are improved during these final days.

This week, we are excited to launch our Dragon ROAR Ups, while also continuing to push through the final phase of state testing. Schools are required to meet a 95% testing completion rate, and we will continue to communicate with families to support student attendance.

Please be on the lookout for one final newsletter before the end of the school year with important updates and celebrations.
Thank you again for your continued support, trust, and collaboration throughout this year.

Let’s finish strong, together! 💪🔥

Students with last names M - Z will participate in the 2nd ceremony beginning at 11:00 am.

Our event will be in the DJMS cafeteria. Note, due to the fire code, DJMS may not allow more than 3 guests per student. We also recognize that some families are larger and have special circumstances. We will begin the waitlist today. Should you need more than 3 tickets, simply sign up below outlining your request. Note, receiving more than 3 tickets is not a guaranteed.

Student Services Updates:

DJMS Policies

Transparency: Always!

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to remind families about student laptop chargers.

All students at DJMS are financially responsible for their assigned laptop chargers. At the end of the year, each student is expected to return their charger along with their device.

Please be advised that students who do not return a laptop charger will be placed on the school’s Obligation List. Being placed on this list may delay or prevent registration for the next grade level.

This is especially important for our students who will be transitioning to high school, as outstanding obligations can impact their ability to move forward smoothly.

To avoid any last-minute stress, we strongly encourage families to make arrangements now if a charger has been lost or damaged. Please refer to the flyer above for information on how to purchase a replacement charger.

Safety

Student Supervision & Safety Expectations

As we enter the final two weeks of school, it is critical that we continue to honor and enforce our school rules and expectations. While the excitement of summer is building, school is not over, and our commitment to a safe, structured, and respectful environment must remain strong.

The last days of school often set the tone for how we finish the year. When expectations are upheld consistently, we prevent unnecessary disruptions and ensure that all students can enjoy upcoming activities and celebrations.

Please remind students that the Student Code of Conduct remains fully in effect, and poor choices made now can have lasting consequences, including impacts that carry into the next school year.

PBIS @ DJMS

May PBIS Calendar

At Denn John Middle School, we believe that positive behaviors should be recognized and celebrated. That’s why we use the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework to help students grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally.

Our PBIS values are represented by F.I.R.E.:
  • Focused – Staying on task and giving your best effort.
  • Integrity – Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
  • Respect – Treating yourself, others, and property with care.
  • Engaged in Learning – Actively participating in lessons and school activities.
Students are rewarded with Dragon Dollars when they show these values in action. Each month, students can use their Dragon Dollars to participate in exciting school events and activities. This not only motivates students but also reinforces the importance of good behavior and strong character.

Thank you, parents, for supporting us in encouraging students to live out our values each day! Together, we are building a school culture where #LearningIsRequired and Dragons thrive.

At Home Support

Here's how you can help:

It is critical that we remain intentional in monitoring student grades and supporting students toward success. This is a pivotal time where small efforts can make a significant difference in whether a student passes or falls short.

Please take time to closely review student grades and identify those who are at risk. More importantly, work alongside these students to develop a clear and realistic action plan for success. This includes:
  • Identifying missing or incomplete assignments
  • Prioritizing key standards or tasks that can improve grades
  • Setting short-term, achievable goals for the remaining days

Students need clarity on what they must do, by when, and how they can get there. Your guidance during this time is essential.

Additionally, continue to communicate with teachers when necessary to ensure there is alignment and support beyond the classroom.

With limited summer school opportunities, the work we do now matters more than ever. Every student we can support to passing is a direct reflection of our commitment and impact.
