Bringing Your Laptop = #Learning is required!
At Denn John Middle School, we are a digitally connected campus where students rely on technology to access essential academic resources. Just like bringing a textbook or a notebook to class, bringing your district-issued laptop and charger every day is a key part of being prepared to learn.
All students are required to bring their laptops and chargers to school daily.
Each laptop is issued with a protective case to help prevent damage and keep devices organized.
Laptops are used for online learning tools, e-textbooks, assignments, research, and more.
Not bringing your laptop is like coming to school without your textbooks—it impacts your ability to participate and learn.
All activity on SDOC district laptops is monitored by a student safety tool called Gaggle.
Gaggle flags and reports inappropriate content, messages, or searches to school administration immediately. Students are expected to use their devices responsibly and follow the F.I.R.E. expectations at all times.
Parents and guardians may be held financially responsible for lost or damaged laptops or chargers. Please take care of your device and use the case provided to avoid unnecessary fees.
We understand that mistakes happen. However, bringing your laptop is a daily expectation. If you forget it, the following steps will be taken to support accountability and responsibility:
A staff member will talk with you to understand why the laptop wasn’t brought.
Your reason will be documented as a minor infraction in Focus.
You’ll receive a reminder about our F.I.R.E. expectations.
A phone call home will be made with you present, and the incident will be documented.
Staff will again ask why the laptop wasn’t brought and document the reason in Focus.
You’ll have a meeting with a trusted adult to talk about expectations and strategies for improvement.
A second phone call home will be made with you present, and documentation will continue.
Your case will be referred to the Dean Team.
A discipline referral will be issued at this level for repeated failure to bring your laptop.
(Exemptions apply for students with documented circumstances.)
The Dean or APO will contact your parent/guardian to establish a daily laptop return procedure.
You will begin checking in your laptop with your 7th period teacher each day and picking it up before 1st period the following morning.
Teachers will designate a safe, secure space to store your laptop.
The academic coach will support teachers and students in ensuring homework completion is not disrupted.
A 4th instance of not bringing your laptop will result in an immediate report to the school dean for further disciplinary action and problem solving.
(Exceptions apply for students with documented circumstances.)
At DJMS, we’re preparing students for a future full of digital tools and tech-based learning. Bringing your laptop to school is part of being a responsible and engaged learner.
If you have questions about your laptop or charger, or need help, stop by the Media Center.
Let’s stay connected, stay prepared, and Breathe F.I.R.E through our actions!
