The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the most prestigious organizations for middle school students across the nation. At Denn John Middle School, we are proud to recognize outstanding students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character.
Founded in 1929, the National Junior Honor Society serves to honor students who have shown exceptional academic achievement and a commitment to their school and community. Membership is both an honor and a responsibility, and students selected for NJHS are expected to continue to demonstrate the qualities that led to their selection.
NJHS membership is based on five core pillars:
Scholarship – Maintaining a high academic standard (typically a GPA of 3.5 or higher)
Leadership – Demonstrating leadership in the classroom and through extracurricular involvement
Service – Volunteering and giving back to school and community
Citizenship – Upholding the values of civic involvement and responsibility
Character – Demonstrating honesty, integrity, and respect in all aspects of life
Eligible students are typically invited to apply in the spring semester of each academic year. Candidates must meet GPA requirements and submit an application that showcases their involvement in service and leadership activities. Faculty members review applications and make final selections.
Once inducted, NJHS members are expected to:
Maintain high academic and behavioral standards
Attend regular chapter meetings
Participate in school and community service projects
Serve as role models for their peers
Our annual Induction Ceremony is a highlight of the school year, celebrating the achievements of our newest NJHS members. Families are encouraged to attend and support their student’s accomplishments.
