At Denn John Middle School (DJMS), we are proud to offer AVID—a nationally recognized program that stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is more than just an elective; it’s a mindset, a support system, and a bridge to a successful future.

What is AVID?

AVID is a college and career readiness program designed to equip students with the skills they need to succeed in middle school, high school, college, and beyond. The program focuses on:

  • Organization and time management

  • Note-taking and study skills

  • Critical thinking and problem solving

  • Collaboration and communication

  • College and career exploration

Whether students dream of attending a university, learning a trade, or starting a business, AVID helps them plan for success every step of the way.

AVID at DJMS: Grades 6–8

We proudly offer AVID as an elective course for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The curriculum is tailored to meet students where they are while challenging them to grow and excel.

NEW! Gifted LY AVID Class
DJMS also offers specialized AVID class for our gifted LY learners in 7th and 8th grade. This class provides an enriched environment where advanced students can thrive, combining AVID strategies with critical thinking and accelerated learning opportunities.
