Principal’s Message

Dear House of Dragons Community,

Welcome to the 2025–2026 school year! It is with great excitement that I welcome each of you to another year of excellence, growth, and partnership at DJMS. A special warm welcome to our new 6th grade families—we are thrilled to have you join the Dragon family!

This year, we proudly launch our new school theme:”Ignite the Possible: Innovate, Engage, & Inspire.”

This powerful message reflects our commitment to unlocking every student’s potential through creativity, connection, and purpose. Together, we will push boundaries and light the path toward limitless possibilities.

At DJMS, our unwavering motto remains: #LearningIsRequired! This guiding principle continues to shape our daily efforts, expectations, and mindset. Supporting this, our School Improvement Plan will focus on three key areas:

  • Student Engagement

  • Monitoring of Student Learning

  • Teacher Instructional Clarity

We believe these pillars are critical to ensuring academic success and empowering every learner to thrive. Therefore, we need every Dragon at school daily to promote #Learning is required!

Our school culture is built on the values of PBIS. At DJMS, our Dragons breathe F.I.R.E.:

Focus, Integrity, Respect, and Engaged in Learning. These values help foster a safe, respectful, and academically driven environment where every student can grow.

What’s New This Year:

  • College Thursdays

Every Thursday is now College Day! Students and staff are encouraged to wear college gear as we promote AVID strategies and strengthen our focus on college and career readiness.

  • Updated Cellphone Policy
To ensure a distraction-free learning environment, students will no longer be allowed to carry phones in person during the school day. All phones must remain in backpacks or bags at all times.

  • Mandatory Student IDs
All students will be required to wear their student ID visibly at all times while on campus. This is a safety measure and part of our updated school operations.

  • Academic Excellence is Non-Negotiable
DJMS is a place where learning comes first. We will continue to inspire minds, foster growth mindsets, and uphold our expectation that #LearningIsRequired through both encouragement and accountability. Note, the DJMS discipline matrix will be updated to include discipline consequences for Failure to Learning is Required.

  • Technology Reminders

Students are required to bring their laptops to school every day, so please ensure devices are charged and ready each morning. In addition to their schoolwork, students should be reading for at least 30 minutes each day outside of school. Anything counts—books, articles, or online passages—as long as they’re actively reading and processing words. We also ask for your continued partnership in monitoring your child’s cell phone use and encouraging safe, respectful digital behavior both in and out of school.

Communication & Stay Connected:

We are excited to enhance our communication with families this year!

  • Weekly Newsletters will be sent every Sunday via email and our new communication platform, ParentSquare.
To ensure you don’t miss important updates, please make sure your most current email address and phone number(s) are on file with the school.

  • School Website will be available with the most updated calendar events and information! Furthermore, the weekly newsletter will be uploaded for your convenience. Also, DJMS communication information regarding teacher and staff is available.

  • Follow Us on Social Media!
Stay connected with DJMS by following our official pages on Facebook and Instagram. We’ll be sharing updates, student highlights, and school events throughout the year.

As we begin this exciting new chapter together, know that we are committed to educational excellence and the well-being of every student. The 2025–2026 school year holds tremendous promise, and with your support, we are ready to make it unforgettable.

Let’s ignite the possible—by innovating with courage, engaging with purpose, and inspiring one another every step of the way.

With F.I.R.E & Gratitude,

Marc A. Hernandez

Testimonials

Student

“I love Denn John Middle because it’s really encouraging and inspiring, and they [teachers] push me to do my best. Whenever I’m struggling or need help, they provide all the things I need, like tutoring.’

Student

“I started cheering last year, and I never thought I was going to be into it, but they really made me feel like I was good at it, and they helped me become even better at it. I would say that cheer has helped me become more confident because if I could do well in cheer, then I could do well in the classroom.”

Teacher

“My main focus here as a teacher at Denn John is to make sure my students are valued, loved, and cared for, and make sure they know that before academics take place. Because for academics to take place, they first have to feel that value and feel validity in their feelings, and know that they’re loved. We believe in the whole child, not just the academic standpoint, so we’re really going to strive to make sure your child not only is successful not in the classroom, but also as they carry it outside the walls of our school.”

Student

“I love Denn John Middle School because teachers are really friendly, and the school really cares about its students.”

Parent

“I have four sons, my oldest is in 11th grade, I have a ninth grader, eighth grader, and sixth grader. They all have come to Denn John under Choice. My oldest was in an IEP all throughout elementary. When it was time for him to come to middle school, the staff at his elementary school were the ones who suggested we think this is going to be a better fit for him, so I took that advice, and the moment that we got here, they all have excelled. My oldest left Denn John going into high school saying mom I don’t need to be on an IEP anymore.” “Denn John is more than just academically learning. The staff is very involved with the students. So, it's one of those things where I send my kids to school knowing that they're getting a quality education at the same time they're being cared for. So being that we are a very family-oriented household, I like to know that my kids are safe where they're going when they're not in my presence and I know that they’re safe and learning while they’re here.”

Parent

“My son loves to be pushed academically, and he is doing very well. He’s currently enrolled in classes that will eventually earn him high school credits. At Denn John, he feels so comfortable and he's able to talk to any other teachers if there's any academic or any type of personal issue. He's always been, be able to communicate with that. And that is so important to me because I cannot be with him 100% of the time. There is no other place that I would rather have my son go to than Denn John.”
