Happy Black History Month!

Dear House of Dragons Community,

DJMS continues to proudly celebrate Black History Month, and we hope all families can join us for our special event, Rhythms of Resiliency: Black History Night, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM. This will be an evening filled with culture, music, performances, and community connection. More details are listed below—we truly hope to see you there!

On a lighter note, I hope your favorite NFL team wins this weekend! Whether you’re rooting for the Patriots or the Seahawks, I hope everyone enjoys the game and time with family or friends.

Parents, we also want to address attendance. Our attendance rate has dropped compared to the fall semester. While we understand that colder weather played a role this past month, it’s time to regroup and refocus. Every day of instruction matters, and our school community cannot afford a loss of learning time. We need your partnership in ensuring students are at school every day so we can return to being leaders in attendance.

Additionally, laptop chargers continue to be a concern. Unfortunately, all parents and students are responsible for maintaining their chargers. Below, you will find a chart with information on how to purchase a replacement charger if needed. Please note that students who do not have a charger by the end of the year will be financially responsible, and for 8th grade students, this issue may delay high school registration. It is extremely important that all students have their laptop chargers daily.

Don’t forget—our Valentine’s Day Dance will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM. The cost is $5, which includes a free dress down, light food, and the dance. Note, transportation will need to be provided by parents. As a reminder, DJMS will not permit large or distracting Valentine’s items on campus this week, including (but not limited to) large stuffed animals, flowers, and gifts.

Lastly, Mathia reviews will be completed next week. Students who have not reached at least 40% completion will receive five days of lunch detention. Exceptions apply for newer students. Mathia is a critical part of our math instruction, and completion is required.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we can ensure our students remain safe, engaged, and successful. 🐉🔥

With F.I.R.E. & Gratitude,

DJMS Policies

Transparency: Always!

At DJMS, we strongly believe that positive relationships between students and teachers are essential for academic success. While building these relationships is a shared responsibility and does not fall solely on students, it becomes much easier for teachers to build trust and connection when students actively contribute as well.

Parents can support this process by coaching students to:
  • Greet their teachers and communicate respectfully each day
  • Ask questions when they are unsure and seek help early
  • Show effort and engagement in class, even when work is challenging
  • Accept feedback with an open mindset and use it to improve
  • Follow classroom expectations, which builds trust and consistency
  • Advocate appropriately by sharing concerns calmly and respectfully

When students take small, positive steps to build relationships, teachers are better able to support, motivate, and guide them toward success. Thank you for helping us reinforce these habits at home—together, we create an environment where students feel supported, respected, and ready to learn. 🐉🔥

Safety

Student Supervision & Safety Expectations

Student safety is always our top priority at DJMS, and we are asking for your support in reinforcing the importance of following traffic laws when entering and exiting school property. It is absolutely essential that students understand street safety, including using crosswalks, obeying traffic signals, and remaining alert to moving vehicles at all times.

When traffic laws are not followed, the risk of serious injury increases significantly. Middle school students are still developing judgment and awareness, which makes adult guidance and consistent reminders critical. Please take time to talk with your child about looking both ways, staying off phones while walking, and crossing only when it is safe.

PBIS @ DJMS

February

At Denn John Middle School, we believe that positive behaviors should be recognized and celebrated. That’s why we use the PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework to help students grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally.

Our PBIS values are represented by F.I.R.E.:
  • Focused – Staying on task and giving your best effort.
  • Integrity – Doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
  • Respect – Treating yourself, others, and property with care.
  • Engaged in Learning – Actively participating in lessons and school activities.
Students are rewarded with Dragon Dollars when they show these values in action. Each month, students can use their Dragon Dollars to participate in exciting school events and activities. This not only motivates students but also reinforces the importance of good behavior and strong character.

Thank you, parents, for supporting us in encouraging students to live out our values each day! Together, we are building a school culture where #LearningIsRequired and Dragons thrive.

At Home Support

Here's how you can help:

Parents play a powerful role in reinforcing the message that #LearningIsRequired beyond the school day. At home, you can promote this mindset by establishing consistent routines for homework, studying, and reading, and by setting clear expectations that schoolwork is a daily priority. Regularly checking grades, assignments, and progress helps students stay accountable and shows them that their education matters.

In addition, encourage your child to ask questions, reflect on what they are learning, and take ownership of their growth. Celebrate effort, not just outcomes, and remind students that mistakes are part of learning. By modeling a positive attitude toward school, maintaining open communication with teachers, and supporting attendance every day, parents help create an environment where learning is valued, supported, and expected.
